How to Lubricate Your Dryer Drum Bearings
A dryer squeaking noise is not just irritating; it can mean that there are bigger problems to come. Here’s how to lubricate the bearings on a dryer. If the squeak persists after cleaning and lubricating the dryer drum bearings, you may need to replace them.
1. Unplug the dryer.
2. Remove the lint filter and the two screws from the rear access panel.
3. Insert the putty knife into the slot between the top panel and the front panel. Pry the two panels apart by positioning the putty knife further down into the seam, closer to the corners.
4. Remove the front panel.
5. Reach into the dryer and remove the drive belt. It should slide off the motor pulley and the idler pulley.
6. Disconnect the wires from the door switch and remove the screws that hold the front panel to the dryer cabinet.
7. Lift the front panel up and away from the dryer cabinet to remove it.
8. Look for the bearings that support the dryer drum on each side of the dryer. They image below shows the typical replacement drum bearing and seal kit. Remove the old bearings and replace them with new ones. Be sure to replace the seal before you reassemble the dryer.

14. Install the new seal. using it as a guide to center the seal in the space around the bearing.
15. Install the back panel onto the dryer and tighten the screws to hold it in place.
16. Install the top panel and tighten the screws that hold it in place.
17. Replace the drive belt, attaching it to the motor pulley first and then to the idler pulley.
18. Reassemble the front access panel and tighten the screws that hold it in place.
